How do I honor/toast someone without making it too over-the-top or excessively complimenting?

I have to do a "toast" speech, but am having problems with the amount of compliments (or "toasty" parts.) I would rather it be an informative speech, but it HAS to be a toast. How can I do this without being too cheesy or over-the-top with the compliments. The idea of this kind of speech makes me feel weird.

Focus on the facts of the accomplishments /reasons for being lauded and interject a bit of humor in a brief account. Sum it up w/ a "Congratulations! Here's to the guy who has led the way " or something to that effect. Good luck!

It is difficult to do a "toast" speech, have done a few in my time. What worked for me was to include a lot of information a lot of laughter and lots of compliments.

The secret is to squash all the above down into a short but impacted speech, keep your listeners, attention with compilments, laughter and information.

Rehearse your speech, so you know it well, speak clearly and precisly showing confidence, be yourself. Hope this helps good luck. :-D
