Unicru Answers: How to Pass the Employment Personality Test
92The Unicru job application is owned by Kronos and was developed by psychologists in order to help businesses find the best employees. Today, many chains such as Best Buy, CVS, Blockbuster, WalMart, Kroger, Lowe's, Marriott, Starbucks, (and more) use this type of application to screen potential employees.
Applying for jobs can be stressful and time consuming and, thanks to Unicru, the process is not even more tedious and stressful. After applying for several jobs which use Unicru, I have learned to avoid jobs that use this application.
When you're looking for a job, you might apply to several places. Perhaps you apply only to where you would genuinely enjoy working. However, with each application comes the annoyance of spending hours filling out hundreds of questions about your personality. If you're like many others, you might start applying to places which are less likely to use this type of application.
The Unicru application asks illegal questions, such as your birth date. This test is a personality test whose purpose is to find people suitable for a job. However, this method of finding employees is not only tedious for the potential employee, but borderline illegal, definitely immoral, and is a great way to get a person to lie. Why would a person lie on a personality test?
This particular personality test asks numerous questions that are up for interpretation.

How Does the Unicru Test Work?
Unicru asks a lot of questions that seem pointless, but it's really a personality test to find what they believe are the best employees. They give all applicants a score (which the applicant is unable to see) and forward the scores to the business in which they applied.
The business is only given contact information for the highest scorers (with no contact information given for those who didn't score as highly. They are completely ruled out.)
What if you're a good worker and just have a few personal flaws (like everyone does?)
How Unicru Hurts Diversity
Diversity makes things fun and healthy in a work environment. It allows employees to understand different points of view, which ultimately leads to better customer service.
If you are up against the Unicru test and are hurt and confused about why you didn't get the job, try a different line of thinking. Do you really want to work for a company that wants a Unicru-type person -- whatever personality type that may be?

I worked for the same Company (which now uses Unicru for hiring) of course I got hired before they started using unicru and was always on time and ready to work. The people they hired with unicru never lasted very long maybe 1 out of 5 turned out to be a good worker some of them even came to work in sweats hehehehahaha they were always late and never lasted more than a few months, crappy work ethics Thanx unicru
These personality tests are simply a way for employers to remove all sense of humanity from the job hiring process. What ever happened to filling out a resume, handing in an application, and calling back to schedule an interview with a manager? This test has zero value in assessing someone's skills, adaptability, intelligence, and overall demeanor. I can't pass the thing. The questions don't make any sense. I've tried everything and no one will call me back. I finally got a look at some cheat sheets today and realized how much more stupid the process is than I thought. Any company that hires this way doesn't deserve to do business with normal people. We should be outraged, and bring this to legislators. I'm not saying that people shouldn't be tested to make sure they can do a job depending upon its requirements, just that the test fit the actual job and not some BS notion of a lemming.
I keep reading about these "Cheat sheets". A lot of the jobs i have apped to have personality tests by unicru or kronos and i am not getting calls back. On painfully easy positions that a 4th grader could perform. I read about Mel's cheat sheets and how you posted them, but i cannot find any anywhere. could someone PLEASE link me to some cheat sheets before i'm homeless and carless and kicked out of college?
We should just blow up unicru/kronos and kill those so-called scientists for spreading their BS!
I never once got a call back, through ANY applications I have filled out through the online process, that UNICRU CONTROLS!
I took this bullshay test after reading about it online and realizing I'd failed by answering with "agrees" and "disagrees" instead of STRONGLY AGREE and STRONGLY DISGREE to every question.
I can't believe I just spent 5 years in college to do a temporary job application, having to pretend that I'm a super-bubbly robot who never gets angry with anyone.
There's UniCru test keys online for anyone that wants to just breeze by this meaningless test. Open up the test window and have it next to the key. Then maybe they'll actually LOOK at your real information: your education, work experience, things that ACTUALLY matter, and not some lame personality test. I'm pretty sure the type of person that would truthfully answer these questions and pass is a psychopath.
i applied for a job using unicru application and i was at the last page and about to click submit it disappear so I got so mad because i answered all the questions they ask on the application but nothing happen. So i think this is a hoax.
it is sad story & chao, do you know that appy for job online in the store or home at the computer? , that why many people are not hire at all .. not fair for deaf people dont know how to write or reading , some of them learning disabilities. you must take 100 qusetion online, they have color code to hire you or not. that suck ...
The key to "passing" Unicru's assessment is to answer "Strongly Agree" and "Strongly Disagree,". Answering "Agree" or "Disagree" actually counts against you.
With that in mind, you need to appear confident; cheerful; honest; tactful, polite, and courteous; empathic, loving people, crowds, and conversation; timely and tidy; and completely free of regret.
Answer to convey the above, and you should get green across the board.
Yes, you need to be a Boy Scout. You know: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, and Clean.
We started using the Unicru assessment after I was hired (luckily). It didn't help the turnover rate (that we were in a college town might be the biggest reason for that), and the best workers scored yellow on at least 1 item. Of the half dozen or so all-greens, only 1 was worth a damn. 3 were flat-out flakes, we caught 1 stealing DVDs, and 1 tried the "I don't want to work any more so I'm going to say that my mental problems are all work-related so I can get disability" schtick. I hired one guy who scored red for Customer Service and yellow on the other two, put him on the overnight crew, and he was one of the best workers we had until the company got rid of the overnights.
The Unicru assessment seemed to have no real bearing on the actual value of an employee. I took the assessment, myself, after all my promotions, and awards and honors, and "atta boys." My Score? Green on dependability, yellow on the other two. And at that time, I had no idea how the assessment worked.
So, here's what I think. Employers should invest in a crystal ball and some Tarot cards, and maybe keep a psychic on the payroll. Whether or not you believe in the effectiveness of these, they're a damn sight more reliable than the Unicru voodoo.
The UNICRU personality test should be hailed useless seeing as how so many potentially good employees have been shunned from employment with stable companies because of rediculous and entrapping questions. Our economy is in a serious state of crisis reguardless of what washington reports. This form of testing is only hurting the ones that need help. If our country is to rebuild its economy it first needs to rebuild its workforce, and not from the top down as our rich politicians would like to do, but from the bottom (us) up.
Anyone who can pass this test without lying has some seriously psychological issues.
I agree that Unicru is way off-base on it's personality test. I'm going to do some investigative research into the man who designed the test, Dr. David Scarborough, and see what I can find out about his actual contribution into this. I'll post more later, but here's a direct link to a page on the Kronos website discussing the science of hiring as they see it. I'm going to read that, and see if I can gain insight as to the whys - we already know about the who and how of it. Also this: If this test is barely legal in intent, it may be very unconstitutional in scope, and could possibly be brought down just by that. A little food for thought.
I recently released a Firefox extension that I really think deserves some exposure. It's called pbot, and it automates the process of filling out these stupid job application personality tests. It's based on some of the answer keys available online, and cuts time filling the things out down to about 3-5 minutes. The website is here: http://pbot.20x.cc/ and I can be reached at PersonalityBot@gmail.com
Thanks.
I'm tired of filling these out! I've filled out so many Unicru surveys looking for work since April and I haven't even gotten a single call from anybody! It's frustrating. I'm a hard worker, most of my former boss's at one point or another have told me I'm one of their best employees, I've received emplyee of the month awards. For one company I had been with for the past five years up until this past May, I received Top Employee of the Year Award for all five years. I can work. I can work hard. I DO work hard. Even if I don't like the job, I put in all the effort I have. That's just how I was brought up. You have a job, you NEVER take that for granted and you put forth everything into being the best you can at it. So why is nobody even calling me? I'm glad I looked up these answers. I was answering agree/disagree for a lot of things. Some of the "right" answers don't even make sense to me: "You are not afraid to tell someone off," CORRECT. I strongly agree that I am not afraid to tell someone off. This doesn't mean I'm going to be a bitch to a customer. I'm able to stand up for myself, isn't that a good thing? Why should I be "afraid" to stand up for myself? Do they really want employees who are "afraid" to defend themselves? This is just so ridiculous. I hate lying, but I need a job even more than I hate lying... so Unicru surveys, here I come with my new "correct" personality!
...................goddamn the system.......................i was born in america... but im starting to slightly feel like im not american as time goes by...
melbel; are they right? if so how do you know?
I am really mad that they would rather have somebody that lies and the questions then sumone who would rather tell the truth!!!!!!
People can tell when you are happy or sad? SA or SD
F*** YOU, UNICRU! Now that everyone has the cheat sheet, just how effective are your little tricks and games now?? I think it is absurd that people would rather hire a person based on how well they lie, rather than by whether or not they can actually do the job. There should be laws against this crap.
Why is anybody surprised? This is yet another example of how society rewards the craftiest, most disingenuous self-important blowhards and punishes the rest of us. OK, so for a direct sales position those skills can admittedly be useful. But what if that's not the role you're after (or you're really not doing much that requires those skills to begin with?) You're either still a "green", yellow or red...
Everybodies fails and everybody passes. It is just a ruse to hide behind to pick the "right type" of employees. With it they can pick a underqualified quota person...or underqualified white person, etc. They just have to change the parameters of the test. Atleast this is my opinnion, what happen to the hiring the person because you like them and they are qualified. I will not hire people that way.
It is sad that completely ambiguous standardized tests determine the fate of our working class. This sounds like it could be found in sci-fi scenario where the human race has been reduced to a bunch of sheep blindly following the herd, as is found in literary works/films such as: 1984, Farenheit 451, Brave New World, Stepford Wives, Being There, etc.
unicru/kronos should be burnt to the ground along with all their bs "scientists" inside.
if the end times happen and they are asked what did you you before the CHANGE they desersved to get lynched along with all those rich company bigwigs.
there is no "correct" personality I don't need a job that requires this nonsense test of irritation!
Dr. David Scarborough is a quack just like those TV infomercials trying to sell you a cure or those get rich quick schemes by reading my book of garbage.
using this to take the test for the fourth time. many years retail exp and never had to do this....unishaft.
several years ago I went to some major membership store applying for asst mgr from previous 10 year exp. The hiring supervisor was so excited with my resume but formality was unicru for all. i failed and in my despair went to major bookseller. had 15 min interview with manager no unicrew no drug test was hired a week later and in 6 years went from bookseller to asst mgr. great benefits and screw unicru. my personality is better in person than on paper.
Has anyone shopped at Best Buy, Staples, Walmart, Target, or any of these stores that use this stupid personality test. Did you ever notice how unknowledgeable their employees are and how they alway argue with customers, and are never truely helpful.
This is because these companies seem to be getting the opposit results from these tests that are intended. They are weeding out the good, honest, and hard working employees. The only people that can pass these things are liars, cheaters, and BSers. Is that the type of employee they really wan't.
I don't know anyone that is always cheerful, outgoing, has perfect attendance, etc... It is not physically possible in this universe as we know it. People get sick, they have family emergencies, they miss work, they have bad days and good days. It doesn't meen they are going to intenially curse out customers and be bad unreliable workers. So what is the point of this test? If an applicant just fudges, or BSes the answers does that really tell you what type of employee they will be?
I saw the key for the 99 standard questions, but I swear that some of the questions they get off forune cookies or something, I got one that was something like, "you use your mind more than your hands." Honestly there is no right way to anwser that question, if you strongly agree, then it means you can't do any kind of hands on work and you are off in lala land all day, if you strongly dissagree, it shows that you can't think, analyse, or solve problems. And they are basing your entire future on unanswerable questions like this, and that type of question automatically kicks out everyone. Why not just ask, "If a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, did it fall" Ok Best Buy I Strongly Agree with that one.
I'm begining to wonder if the Idiots who created this test could pass it.
unicru doesn't use there own application to screen their applicants. This shows how unreliable their test is.
If you have a few minutes and you want to have some fun, go to the kronos site, link provided, and fill out an application for any job, they never even ask PT type questions.
I have never gotten a call back on a job that requires unicru to apply!
RE Unicru not using their own application -- don't be so sure. The information I received is several years old but it came from a reliable source. At that time job offers at Unicru were indeed contingent on taking The Test. This requirement was revealed to the candidate after he'd already qualified based on his application, resume, and two interviews on different days with multiple staff. Not liking this kind of surprise, he took another company's offer.
To: Lurker
You make an interesting point, but I think the point I was trying to make, and the point mebel was trying to make is that many organizations are using the unicru to reject candidates before they are even considered for a position, the fact that unicru does not require the questionaire as a pre-screen, but on a contingency basis leads me to belive that they must be aware of how skewed the test results are and they don't wan't to eleminate potentially good employees.
Just a thought
You are my Hero! This should be illegal. They just are not logical. How is a honest intravert ever supposed to get a job. Dock workers or other non customer service job workers have to take the same test.
Hey, I'm glad I decided to research this. I've been applying for jobs and some of them use unicru and others use their own variant of it. I've been ignored and only once received a sorry you were not selected email. I stupidly I guess answered these questions honestly. Obviously that's not what's wanted. What gets me is that the employer never even sees my qualifications. It just goes straight into the digital trash bin when I didn't "pass" their incredibly dumb "test".
I've decided that if I don't get at least an interview from the last application I just did earlier today, I'm going to file a complaint with EEOC. The application went through Unicru and you can't complete the application without giving them your birthdate. Asking age is an illegal question. For all we know they use that and that alone to screen out applicants.
These tests should be illegal. I also love how a certain big box makes certain personality traits part of the job description. Is that legal? Seems like it would illegally screen out disabled people, especially those with neuro disorders like high functioning autism or mental illness.
I think eventually these tests are going to be ruled illegal, but it will take people who were rejected complaining in droves. So please complain to the EEOC if you get rejected after going through one of these unethical agencies like Unicru.
All they are really doing is using us, the regular people, to make money. There is nothing scientific about it at all. The EEOC already has a lawsuit going against Kronos, trying to get them to prove there's any scientific validity to their tests. Unfortunately it is only limited to one disabled woman who complained...SO PLEASE COMPLAIN!!
When I enlisted in the MI national guard, I had to answer less questions then these stupid tests.
We go into combat get shot at, kill people, and acquire PTSD. Yet all I had ot ask is. Were you ever a member of a extremist group. Did you never try to overthrow the US govt...
Its working grocery not the FREAKING CIA.
Unicru system does not let you store a profile on their site than use that profile to apply for multiple jobs to multiple stores. For 3 different Kroger stores I have to redo the application over again each time. It's a pain in the rear and a waste of time.
Meijer and Toys-R Us on the other hand, I set up a profile and can apply to multiple jobs. Quicker and easier.
Well this is how I look at it. Corporations either need to make serious changes (or) we need to start promoting cheating on tests in public schools so we can prepare kids for adulthood so they can be successful.
Oh yeah and as a customer, I tend to have to put up with lousy customer service at the places that use this test. Especially CVS and Best Buy. Nice job Unicru.
scu-ryu-you-uni-cru
I was just curious...
1) has ANYBODY even used these cheats sheets and had success from them? I used a couple of them and to my dismay I still DID NOT get called back.
and
2) Are there any cheat sheets to the updated personality tests by Unicru, Kronos, Taleo, Kenexa? They use new questions now, so the old cheat sheets are obsolete. I believe Sears has a question that goes something like:
"How often do you use Facebook and other social networking sites?" and "How often do you shop online?"
And a lot of the updated questions will give you different scenarios and 5 choices as to what you'd MOST likely and LEAST likely do. For example, I believe one of them was:
"Your friend/co-worker has been assigned to do a job that he feels is beneath him, and refuses to do it. What would you LEAST likely do? And What would you MOST likely do?
a. Tell your friend to do the job and stop complaining.
b. Ask your friend to trade assignments; you'll do his and he'll do yours.
c. Do nothing; let his supervisor deal with it.
d. Offer to do the job for him, just this once.
e. Tell The supervisor. "
So yea, what are the answers to these new scenario questions, because I'm obviously failing them.
The questions/answers are outdated. Someone put up some fresh ones ASAP.
They reworded most of the choices.
Thanks melbel for the article. I only wish I'd read it sooner.
I was just stopped short for interviewing for a job with the Bonefish restaurant as a cook because of this asinine unicru test. Nearly thirty years of cooking experience in the military and civilian food service. I've cooked stateside, overseas and been a restaurant manager as well.
Five years ago, I was working for Macaroni Grill and was trying to move into management. I interviewed with my regional manager as well as a corporate interviewer and was givent the green light. Finally it came down to this test and I was failed.
If this test was definitve I would have no problem with it. When I worked for that company I saw many managers who were fired for stealing, sleeping with employees, mismanaging money, drinking with employees, and just being plain incompetent. Yet ALL of them PASSED this test.
From now on I will cheat to pass this test. There has to be some way that this test can be sh*tcanned. It is completely unfair. I am a decorated veteran of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom yet because of this test I'm an undesirable while people I can work circles around get hired.
This is great. Thanks for posting. I haven't come across this test (thank God) but have sat through scores of pointless interviews perhaps based on these questions. A short cut would be to ask: are you willing to scrub all traces of your personality with a metal brush and become a piece of putty in our magnificent corporate hands? (Hint: the answer is SA)
Yes - these tests are totally stupid! Maybe they want to hire the people who fail? Look at the state of retail in this country and almost all are using this test or some kind of variation of it. Go into the stores or restaurants and see who is hired - tattooed, pierced, cell phone playing teenagers sitting on the counters drinking a Pepsi and eating greasy chips and licking their fingers! Yes they ask age questions! Walmart, Sears, Meijer, Penneys, Bon Ton, Elder Beerman, AMC Theatres - the list goes on and on! Even the horrible managment get hired with this test or a similar one. It has no relevance at all. Because once a person is hired - if they can't tell time, show up to work, add and subtract, spell or get off their cell phone to wait on me or you - none of which the test actually tests! Example - I have appled to a Bon Ton store like 100 times - no interview - the store looks like poo - the employees are standing around talking doing nothing. Then go to a Sears - just observe the teenagers standing around talking and playing on cell phones and on the store computers - eating a bag of chips and drinking a slurpy. There is no work ethic in these places. Even the managers don't have any work ethic. The tests are just plain stupid!
So sick and tired of these fricking tests. I've filled out somewhere between 75 and 100 of them now. Talk about a waste of time. Still no damn interview, and where's the feed back? I have no idea if its because I'm over 45, I used to earn 3 to 4 times the amount of money that this or that particular crappy minimum wage company is currently offering, or if I somehow failed this damn test. I'm a hard worker I'll do the best I can at what ever the job is, and all I'm looking for is some sort of income until the economy comes back.
- I agree on much of this persons aspects towards the Unicru personal testing !
From what I understand if you don't "pass" this stupid test you won't get hired. That should be illegal in the US, it's discrimination. Also these tests are so ignorant I bet the Unicru morons couldn't even pass their own test! The questions have no bearing on the job, period. I say people ban together to get these tests outlawed in the states. Or Unicru can make a test for the politicians to pass before they run for office. Oh, well...I guess we'll have no politicians then.
Does anyone of a site/page to sign to have these tests banned?
Instead of the republicans and dems pointing the finger at each other for the unemployment they should both blame these tests which prevent people from getting hired. If this country had this crap back in 1776 there wouldn't be a country now.
I say Unicru can go to H#ll!!!
There's a petition to congress to ban unicru. 75 have signed, more are needed. Try searching this: "Ban the use of unicru as a condition of employment petition". It ends in html so it's not allowed to be posted in these comments.
In the same boat here. I wasted about an hour on the first application But it seems that a lot of the positions I want use Unicru.
Now, I learned long ago how to beat these tests but it's still a waste of my time. I have less than 3 weeks to get a pay check or go live in my car.
They should, at the very least, come into this century and let applicants store a profile, or let us apply to all of their customers at once. Even letting us apply to more than one location for the same employer would be an improvement.
If I had more time, I would write my own app, institute these changes, and steal their market right out from under them.
I dislike the Unicru application, too, and I'd like proof that industrial psychologists can find the best applicants. I spent 45 minutes filling one out for a dog bather position!
I'd like to say I will never fill out another one, but I am headed toward desperate, so I might have to...
Unicru sucks! i hate it. I didn't know it was timed.
I can't even begin to count how many times I've had to go through the Unicru test. I've always found it long and pointless, not only that but I sit there and get about ten questions in and start thinking, wait didn't I already answer this question? I honestly don't see how these are helpful. If you want to get an idea of how a person is how about you interview them yourself. I mean honestly, I see no point to a test that weeds out people that don't pass it.
I also don't find the whole reading skills and what not reason a good one. If someone couldn't read well or understand many things then they wouldn't be able to fill out an application in the first place. Hell, most applications have a lot of things they ask for, if you don't read well you'll be sitting there scratching your head, wondering what to do.
These tests are completely bias and just a way for managers to by pass most of the work they should be doing because the test weeds the people with low scores out. Just because someone has a low score doesn't mean they suck at working.
My husband has filled out a lot of applications through the unicru system and failed. The man couldn't be nicer, harder working, and more reliable, not to mention he understands almost anything and reads extremely well. Yet, he's not considered for a job or even called in for an interview because he fails some personality test.
"I'm going through the whole process right now. I'm a college student looking for summer work. I actually took the time to drive around my hometown and went into stores to see if they were hiring. Even if they were, nobody has applications in the stores anymore. That's what I want. A real piece of paper that I can fill out in the store and hand directly to a manager.
To make these Unicru applications even more annoying, they actually pre-screen your results. Applying doesn't mean that anybody actually sees that you applied. Apparently, I answered the personality questions "wrong" on several apps, and I got instant auto-denial emails, saying that I didn't fit what the company was looking for.
Another problem with these online applications, is that they assume that your previous work experience paid hourly or yearly. My only job experience has been helping out my tennis coach with summer clinics, and I got $100 a week. Take it down to hourly pay, and it's about $15 per hour. I can't put on an application that I'm currently making that rate. It's deceiving.
I once talked to the manager of a petsmart (they use a test, probably unicru, so mentioning them here does them no more harm then they do to themselves using unicrap)anyway, the manager was telling me the test results are green, yellow and red. He said he was looking over applications that were red, one question for a potential employee was "you raise your voice often" which the person answered "strongly agree". Well, it turns out the person in question was a former DRILL SERGEANT!!! So our troops give their lives to protect "freedom" and get treated like this when they return? If these companies don't think our armed forces are good enough to be employees they deserve no employees nor any business.
Unicru, its' test and the companies that use Unicru are UNAMERICAN!
Just for boredom, I decided to look for a job online that involves these tests and see if I get a call back. I stumbled upon Best Buy and I applied for Sales Associate position. I gotta admit, the test was DUMB and POINTLESS and UNTRUE. There's no logic and most of it will not happen or WILL happen in a real life situation.
So anyways, I took the test and filled out my online application. But since it's just for fun and I just wanted test it out, I decided to use "cheats". I copy and paste some question via google and just click random sites that has the answer for them. What happened after that? Within 6 days, I got a call from Best Buy scheduling me for an interview. TOTALLY WASN'T EXPECTING IT! They told me I pass the "first screening" of the hiring process. And so I went ahead with the interview. I hate Best Buy's employee since they are "dumb" and rude. The interviewer? EVEN MORE RUDE. Answering phone calls and text messaging in the middle of an interview. How unprofessional is that huh? These tests should be abolished and get back to the old fashion apply in person OR print and fill out an application online instead of having these stupid tests. And did I accept the job? Well to be honest, I bullcrap the interview. So definitely a no-no for me (: I don't even want to work for them too. It was all part of my experiment and how they see potential candidates. IT'S POINTLESS.
The unicru test is cheating you out of a job, so use the damn cheat sheet!
I emailed the EEOE about unicru and was told that the questions must be "relevant" to the job. I'm going to contact them again and ask them if these questions are "relevant". And maybe contact to the ACLU to file a lawsuit against unicrap as my CIVIL RIGHTS are being violated.
I don't believe I have ever gotten a job after taking this type of test.
I have a question maybe someone can answer, I dropped out of high school and got my GED. Am I supposed to lie or tell the truth and answer SD? Can I file a discrimination suit against unicru/kronos and the employers who use this system? We all know telling the truth kicks my app out of the system so in fact, uniscru is discriminating against me and anyone else who quit school for whatever reason. And another thing, has anyone who ever took this 'test' given his/her consent to this psyche exam? It tells you there are no right or wrong answers and doesn't ask your consent to being graded/tested at all. Surely there are loopholes in the law somewhere to hit this so-called shrink Scarborough and crew where it hurts-in the hip pocket, bankrupt them.
It would be great to have some lawmakers apply for jobs that require this test and see how well they do. I would bet that none of them would be able to pass it either. After they were "red flagged" for a job at Walmart or Best Buy, I think they might have a different view of the fairness of the tests and on banning the use of them.
we have got to do something about this! this is so blatently illeagle !
I used to work at Unicru in the engineering department that made up the tests and developed the sites. I will tell you those people truly were a bunch of @ssholes to work with, that is why I quit. Oh, and I never had to take a Unicru test to get hired by Unicru. That should tell you something.
Does the cheat sheet actually work?
It seems if you pass the test they will call you, but I wonder if they keep your name in the database and toss out all your additional apps if you faied before. In fact I read somewhere that a manager with one of the companies that uses Uniscru said that he didn't want anyone who failed re-applying and passing so who knows?
I'd say if you're putting the app in for the first time and pass you're good, but if you keep trying I bet they just throw out any new apps. I tried kroger using the cheats and got no calls but I've applied there many times before so I bet I'm (name and SSN) in Uniscru's data base and my apps get tossed. I don't believe it's their right to get your SSN anyway, the risk of identity theft or some other use (such as a list of non-robots) could be made with it. With nazis like Unicru around we don't need emenies, we have them on our own shores.
Also just to add, I've heard Kroger is a "who you know who you..."(it rhymes) type place and without inside help even applying and passing is a waste of time.
Everyone who puts apps in needs to email the main office of the companies and ask why they're discriminating against you, ask them why they call themselves American while bowing to a fascist like scarbogough, ask them if the CEOs passed the test, ask them why they're testing you without identifying it as a test, why they lie about that fact. Probably won't get you anywhere but it'll let them know you're on to them. Also ask them that since you're not good enough to be an employee that means they don't want you as a customer. Hit them in the pocket book, boycott the stores that use uniscru!
Kronos,I hope your company tanks in the stock market.Have good day.
Its funny, not to mention disturbing, low and nasty, how they show a disclaimer-type page that says "[Insert company name] is an Equal Opportunity Employer.[Insert company name] does not discriminate...",yet they are using this blantant discrimination tool?.Sorry,no thanks.Impedence to work is a crime.Just that alone is good enough for a lawsuit.Any company using unicru,or similar tests will sees no business from moi.
Lowe's has Kenexa, they have a nifty copyright thing to try to deter us from helping each other. If you're not afraid of it I'll post the stupid SA/SD questions, the others were ACTUALLY job related, almost gave me a heart attack, then the stupid crap began.
Took the better part of an hour to navigate all the application crap.
ok. this cheat sheet says somewhat of a thrill seeker SD, another one says SA... Which is it, SD or SA???
SD, they don't want you hanging off the rafters like a monkey, getting hurt and using the insurance you pay for, being out because of said injury or getting killed (then they'd have to find another person who passed/cheated the test). So leave your parachute, skis, dirt bike, whatever at HOME.
You are NOT a thrill seeker, you do everything you're told, NEVER talk back, cuss, let anything bother you or seem to have a mind of your own. You're friendly, like to talk/listen to people ramble on about their 7th son, make small talk, big talk, hand signals all to help sell whatever crap they want you to sell. You were an 'A' student, never missed a day, never thought of quitting. Everything wrong in your life is your fault, you have no worries or regrets, your family is proud or everything you've done. You sense those around you, can read their minds and feel/share their pain/sorrow/happiness. You're never in a bad mood no matter what. You can handle difficult people all day, are infinitely patient, like to get involved in other people's problems, avoid arguments, never make mistakes...on and on...in other words, you're boring, live for the job, love the job, are nosy, never shut up, unrealistically happy, everything is great...
Which other cheat sheet says SA?
peopleanswers.com is a new one, these places keep popping up everyday, just a money making scheme and the companies are TOO STUPID to realize it!
Is there actually a living, breathing human being that would actually fit the description of the answers above and not a pre-programmed robot?
It seems to me that the only people such "personality tests" weed out are those who actually have personalities.
It seems to me that the only people who get weeded out by such statements are those who actually have a personality. And a statement like "Any trouble you have is your own fault" defies it's own logic because it's phrased in terms of an absolute. There's no way anyone can answer that truthfully and pass. I know the point is to determine whether you are likely to blame others for your misfortunes but even if you don't do that, it assumes that you can personally control everything around you. And there's a lot on this planet and in this universe no one can control.
By the way, "Any trouble you have is your own fault" also seems to be the attitude that companies that use this test as an employment requirement use towards customers who have trouble with their products. "Any trouble you have (with our products) is your own fault".
The motto of companies that force applicants to pass this test in order to get interviewed. "Any trouble you have (with this test) are your own fault".
All of you guys are complaining about the damn test, have any of you signed the petition for it? How many of you are working n a lawsuit against it? Don't talk about it, be about it. I have sign the petition and I am working on a lawsuit on it. You know you can actually file a civil suite and win some money damages for being discriminated upon. Make it happen guys. Don't sit around talking about how much you hate the test. Lets help others get this test out of here so that every one can get back to work.
I've actually sent emails to 2 senators and 3-4 congressmen or more in VA and TN, a few to the state psychology boards where Unicru has companies at about the Unicru/Kronos test and it's discrimination. If anyone wants my letter as a reference to send to their congresspersons or senators, I'm an admin on the Workers and Employers Against Unicru facebook group. There's also a link to a forum to tell your Unicru stories on.
This is what we need to do, constantly send messages to our leaders until they realize this is a problem and is discriminatory, illegal, wrong and socialist, truly a company that tells someone whether they're ALLOWED to work based on a subjective, silly test is socialist and if Kronos gets it's app process into every job (as they are trying to do) then they can pick and choose who they allow to work. There's a memo by Scarborough himself where he admits this test hurts minorities. The EEOC sought to find out the depth of this discrimination but their investigation was hampered by a judge. So please, it takes no time to write an email explaining you've been red flagged (unhireable) by Unicru/Kronos because of a subjective psychological test that DOES diagnose people as "unfit" to work.
Also it seems if you failed the test you're blacklisted, which is why you can put in a dozen apps at different places that use Unicru using different answers and never get a single call. They may perform a credit check on you without your consent as well. The more I dig around on the net the more I find out, such as in a single year (around 2005) they processed more than 11 MILLION applications, resulting in less than 6% (550,000) hired. Imagine the scope of identity theft if their database was hacked!
One woman's daughter was trying to get on as a bagger at a grocery store, she was told to 'redo' the test, then was told to 'redo' the test a 2nd time, then a third-changing answers each time to try to get it, her mother said she gave up after the third try. This is just plain wrong and an unacceptable to do business in a free country.
Finally, if we can prove they're 'diagnosing' people they would be shut down as they seem to be unlicensed as psychologists. Every test has answers, since it's a psych test there is a diagnosis.
The petition got messed up, apparently petitiononline merged/was taken over by another company, in the process the petition lost about 40 signatures.
I emailed my congressman about Unicru/Kronos and received a call from his staff in DC. They said they are going to look into this, that they hadn't heard anything about these personality tests before. He also said to keep spreading the word about the test. I URGE everyone sick of Unicru/Kronos to email his/her congressman about this immediately.
I heard that Unicru is part of a global scale 'naughty or nice' reporting scheme and that all information is transferred directly to the North Pole. At first I was skeptical, but then I thought... how is Santa keeping up those lists with so many people on earth and the numbers growing so quickly... Unicru.
Employers have to rely on something esp. if they had poor judgement in the past- they do not actually care what affects you over their hiring needs. These tests are ridiculous and unreliable. I have a Masters degree and I am good at analytical work but I may not be working in that field for surviving purposes, so my 'go' is to tell them what they want to hear, then get on. You are all trying to fight the system and even if you do they will find another way around it. In the US we fight and fight and then we cannot get on with what is important in our lives. Discrimination will always be there- is it worth the grey hair and time in the end..... In Europe they are keen in having a persons pic on their resume or "CV" as they call it but here in the good old US people say a pic can be used for discriminatory practices- hey does it really matter- actually it will save you time because if someone sees you are brown for instance and the are racists they won't take up your time for an interview. In the US the corps have the right to do as they want and they always will because they are the superpowers of money- you want out of the system then start your own business and stop working for those creeps who are into games and power. BTW if you want out move to another country who is not so extreme about stuff- Australia, UK, etc...
Apathy is the reason we have to deal with this crap, see the above post. Yeah, Cat, you just roll over for them. How much are you going to let them take? If you don't want to stand up for your rights, there are still those of us willing to FIGHT for our FREEDOMS. Too bad you're not one of them. I just gotta know, are you a Kronos employee or a Communist, Cat?
Thank you for posting this!
I have always felt that I might as well NOT take the test whenever there was one, because I would probably fail it anyway. You can't always tell which answer is the right one, and some of them seem like they are trick questions or to trick you into giving an answer that contradicts a previous one. I have never felt that it was fair considering it is completely impersonal and I believe it can not tell a person if they are a good worker regardless of personality flaws.
How do you know these answers are accurate? I don't want you to reveal your source if it could compromise your source, or the accuracy of the answers.
Replying once more again in thanks.
I already mention to you everything I had thought about this process in an email and a link to my blog. Note:I just started my own thing so no i'm not famous in the least.
I would just like to say in addition, i'm really looking forward to trying at these questions again. Not to get a job mind you and i'm unemployed. but when and if I finally can get a face to face interview I will lay such rant to that poor unfortunate soul that I hope not only to deter them but anyone else who happens to be there at the time. If they feel they can waste my time at my own expense, I have no trouble returning the favor.
Hey everybody! Just wondering if anybody has recently taken a personality test with this cheat sheet? And did it get you a call for an interview...
Also, I have already taken the personality test when I applied at Target and Macys and I received an e-mail from both that I did not "fit" what they were looking for. Does anyone know if you've already taken and failed the test if it blacklists you when you apply at different businesses???
These lists really arent fair because they don't consider the person's age. I don't understand how these work in places like Target. Target is known for not hiring people over the age of 35. They claim this test is what screens their employees. However, most teens that work on Target are probably going to score poorly on these tests. If I am filling out an application and something like this pops up, I don't even bother filling it out anymore. Great detailed hub!
I happen to believe if you fail you're blacklisted. I've tried time and again changing answers and have read about others who have applied many times (one person as many as 200 apps) and got nowhere, so i think these things blacklist reds. Not sure at different businesses, problem is this crap is so secretive no one knows much of anything. And of course our wonderful government has seen fit to ignore this issue.
I applied to several job openings with those doofy questions and guess what - NONE OF THEM CALLED ME. Not for an interview, or to notify me that I got the job. How ridiculous for those companies to put up those doofy personality tests to glean out those not fit, especially high-functioning-autistic-but-verbal folks like me.
Thank goodness I don't work with those doofusses!
Hey, really enjoying everyone's diss on this. While I was unemployed, not only did I have to take this test, but a variety of others. Many of these tests asked questions that were, in fact, blatantly illegal.
For example, one repeatedly wanted to know if I was awaiting trial or out on bail (under the guise of schedule availability). Now you can certainly ask if an applicant has potential upcoming conflicts (for example, an out of state wedding or already paid for vacation)---but you can't ask about arrests. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.
They also asked for graduation dates (illegal since it can give away age) and a host of other illegal questions. I'm also immensely annoyed at online applications that demand my social security number and that I agree to a credit check (now semi-illegal in my state, anyway).
I personally think it's intrusive to run a credit check to begin with, plus I know they'll only do this sort of screening on their final candidate(s), so they don't need that information when they haven't even met me yet!
I think the most hilarious was an employment agency (who, of course, didn't actually HAVE any positions, anyway): they had a lengthy questionairre that asked over and over and over and over again if my use of crack and heroin heavily impacted my job performance?
Ummmm, if someone's really so stoned that they can't answer THAT question correctly, then I can't imagine WHO (besides their dealer so they can pay off their drug debt) would EVER hire them.
You would think Psychologists would be the first people in line advocating human beings. They, of all people, should know different people have different family backgrounds, life experiences and principals of ethics and standards. These psychologists must have just come out of college with no other job experience working with people... after getting roughed up by frat boys for 8 years, they came out with a textbook for a best friend. Let's see them use this personality test towards their thousands of patients to diagnose their problems. I consider myself a good person who takes pride in his work. I work hard, have strong family values, value other peoples valid opinions, and am as honest as I can be. It seems I fail these tests every time. After 11 years in the military, I've had great evaluations and multiple awards for work above and beyond most standards. It seems my only fault for not being hired through one of these tests is honesty. Ridiculous.
And these tests actually discriminate against vets, many of the questions are geared towards crowds, asking things like "It's fun to be in large crowds" well, if a vet has PTSD he/she may have a hard time being in such environment, but deserves the chance to work and get back into society and heal. There are many positions in companies that don't put employees right in the middle of the busiest time or area. I'm amazed the military hasn't spoken out against these tests, these tests are against the very freedoms the armed forces fight for, these tests are 100% communism.
These tests are unfair to ability or competence. The real sad thing is how many good qualified people are being screened out of these jobs. With the economy the way it is the last thing we need is another completely arbituary wall set up these "personality" tests.
I'm a 47 year old pretty successful self-employed woman with 4 grown kids. Years ago, I first encountered this crazy 'test' when my oldest daughter, then 18, was trying to get a job...I was just absolutely flabbergasted! I thought, "This has to be a joke!". Sadly, it isn't. "We" managed to pass that test, and now years later, she's faced with it again - what a horrible, self-esteem killing test for a lot of great people who won't get hired because of this crap. My youngest daughter's very intelligent boyfriend recently applied at some place and was faced with this craziness, she was helping him, she was calling me and I was helping him (before finding this site)...he failed! He is one of the most awesome young men I know! He's a sophomore in college, doing very well, and felt so dumb that he couldn't pass this test. Sites such as these will at least validate everyone out there whom are reluctant to apply to these places. Talk about another job killer!!!
I have taken too many of these tests. I find them unethical and think they should be outlawed. I am both sad and glad to see that I am not the only one out there who has so much trouble with these tests. Sad that these test have caused so much grief and glad that I'm more normal than I thought.
I am on the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum and some of the questions I have encountered on Unicru and other similar tests target my symptoms. Fact is: I don't do well in crowds, I say what's on my mind, I don't read people well... I know I am capable of a retail job, I just can't honestly say I am on the test and when I lie to pass a personality test I get confused to what kind of person they are looking for.
I have pretty much boycotted the test and been only applying to stores that give paper applications or quit the application online once the test starts.
the best way to qualify a person and his/her personality is by interviewing him/her. They is not way a written test will determine the way that person is. Myself, as the author of this article (which is very interesting and helpful) said, I don't like lying and I will say what I really am. Also, some of the question if you read it well can have several meanings and depends on the way you interpreted the question you will answer. By answering those questions, nobody will find out if I can steal or not. I can guaranteed the hard and good worker I am, but as others, I don't get a job by answering these question. That's a SHAME.
Ban the use of unicru as a condition of employment.
Getting rid of the unicru test would aid in the employment of many americans and drop the unemployment rate in america.
the only way to get rid of unicru is to sign the petition! Here is the link!
www.petitiononline.com/lunchin/petition.html
It's not going to disappear on it's own people! Everyone has to play a part to make it go away!
it only has 185 Signatures but, it will take thousands of Signatures! promote this link where ever you can the better the promotion of it the more Signatures can be added to the petition and, the less time it will take for it to be made illegal or to force a change.
I despise these tests. They should be banned Several years ago, I worked at Circuit City during summer break from college. I had to take a polygraph (yes, a lie detector test) and passed. During Christmas break, I went back to work for them, and they used the personality test, since lie detector tests were made illegal. I passed the test and worked that Christmas. I went back during the summer and had to reapply and take the same test. That time I failed and wasn't rehired, even though the manager and everyone there knew me and I had a good work record! Ironically, Circuit City went out of business, along with Borders, who used the Kronos test. I worked for them, but didn't have to do that silly test at the time. After college, I went into the Air Force (everyone going in has to have a background check from the Feds). BTW, I was honorably discharged. I now regret not staying in. So, how can a person pass a polygraph test, a personality test, a background check for the armed forces, work for the US Census Bureau (again, fed background check) and not get hired for a retail job that pays peanuts on the basis of passing nebulous questions on a ridiculous "personality" survey? The companies that sell these tests to corporate retailers are raking in the money, while the stores are getting shafted of good hard working people. The corporations that buy into this crap are the suckers and are ultimately losing and they deserve it for believing in this testing garbage.
I am now into my second year of unemployment due I think largely in part to these types of test. I have 9 1\2 years experience in a grocery store, a good reputation, and well liked by virtually everyone I worked with both manager employee. Basically an Ideal candidate for any grocery position I might try for. I moved and had to leave the company. I applied at another grocery store but because I "failed" the assessment I was told "unfortunately you do not match our qualifications" The worst part for me is that you cant just retake the test the following week. One company that I tried said I have to wait 6 months (Winn Dixie) before I can retake the test. Another (dollar general) said I have to wait an entire year to retake. And these are just the two that got back to me and informed me that I didn't passed. Others haven't even notified me if I passed or not.
I find the Marriott questions frustrating, "Do you do your job much better than other employees, not as well as other employees, about the same, etc... It seems like these questions are worded to make the applicant look egotistical or like a total slacker.
I just got off the phone with the hiring manager for a store that genuinely seemed interested in hiring me. The manager, I'll call her Rosie, said that although she had looked at my resume and I seemed like a good candidate for the job, she couldn't hire me because my personality score was lower than the minimum. Frustrated, I looked online and found this wonderfully disturbing article of yours.
Now I know why I didn't get the job: I answered honestly.
These tests should be banned. They screen for sociopathic, egotistical liars and give them full points, instead of looking for honest people who naturally wouldn't always Strongly Agree or Strongly Disagree because they are human.
I am going to reapply to that same job in a month with these cheat answers and see if I get the job.
This is bullshit.
yes its me again.isnt kronos the name of the greek god of anarkie?
I'm exactly in the same boat that you are guys, I applied for Lowe's seasonal job and because of my honest personality answers they denied my application because I didn't pass the so-called "Assessment Test" that demands you to lie to all SA or SD questions. OK, is this the standard that a huge corporate company finds it's employees? No wonder that sometimes when you go to retail stores and ask a question about a product, most of the time you don't get the right answer, because the person in not fully knowledgeable employee, he just got the position simply he passed the assessment test. This system must be changed.
@ sickoftests Could you send me the answer key to the Kenexa test? o_o;
I have been unemployed for 4 months now. I have to fill this survey out daily! I have been trying to develop an automated system for it and so far it works pretty well.. Thank you Lastpass for the auto fill feature!
Wake up and smell the coffee. Personality tests have nothing to do with personality. There is always at least one question to which there is NO RIGHT ANSWER. That way, they have an excuse not to hire someone that they don't want to hire. Suppose the manager is black and he doesn't want to hire white people. That's illegal, so he says that you didn't pass the personality test, and that's not only legal, that's the latest "in" thing for weeding out undesirables!
people's problems

Mike 2 years ago
Yeah, I just took this test for a part-time (second) job and instantly my analytical side kicked in. I wish I had done some research before answering those silly questions.
Having worked inside the mental health/social service field for a while I can tell you that a lot of tests look the same but are designed to capture very different things. The biggest problems in retail are turnover and sticky fingers. I wonder if the Unicru is designed to measure deception (answering similar questions differently), and aren't so much about how bubbly or chatty a person it. Just a thought...
